E-newsletter message Spring 2011
The last six years in the life of the Y have brought change, challenges, and many accomplishments. Our volunteers, donors, partners, members, and staff have a lot to be proud of. Their hard work, dedication, and confidence have brought us to the point where we are ready to begin a new chapter as a strong, healthy charity ready to continue serving the changing needs of our communities.
The Y Strong Families Campaign to help raise the funds to build the new Y began over four years ago. As we near its successful completion our public phase has started with Honourary Chairs, Vic and Eileen Young, asking for the public's help to raise the final funds needed.
As one of the oldest charities in Newfoundland and Labrador the Y improves lives quietly and consistently every day. The opening of the new facility is a significant milestone in our history and will allow us to expand and grow the programs offered in our three core service areas - health, fitness and recreation, employment and enterprise, and children's services.
Construction of the Ches Penney Family Y has gone well and is at 92% completion. We're looking forward to the grand opening and preparations are underway for a closing celebration at the St. John's Y on May 31, 2011. Soon after we will hold a ribbon cutting ceremony and donor celebration tentatively set for June 30, 2011.
Thank you for being part of the Y!
