Annual Enterprise Olympics Conference a Big Success
On May 28-31, 2009 the YMCA-YWCA of Northeast Avalon held the 15th annual Enterprise Olympics Conference. Enterprise Olympics is a program that encourages the growth of entrepreneurial thinking among students and teachers and, in the long term, helps guide young people to consider careers in entrepreneurship. It is comprised of 3 separate, innovative projects that engage students from different age groups: the Create a Logo program for grades 4-6, the Market Your Thoughts competition for grades 7-9 and the Newfoundland and Labrador Credit Union Business Plan and Showcase Competition for high school students. The top 60 students from the regional high school competitions were selected to attend the Enterprise Olympics Conference, which was this year was held in Marystown.
“The YMCA-YWCA of Northeast Avalon has been committed to Enterprise Olympics for 15 years,” said Nicole Kennedy, Enterprise Olympics Project Coordinator. “This is a program that identifies and supports the creativity, talent and initiative of young people. We hope it will influence their future decisions to start their own businesses and be a part of the growth of Newfoundland and Labrador’s economy.”
The YMCA-YWCA of Northeast Avalon would like to thank the students, teachers and volunteers who participated in the 2009 Enterprise Olympics Conference and contributed its great success.
We also wish to acknowledge the generous support of our sponsors: ACOA, Service Canada, the Department of Education and the Newfoundland and Labrador Credit Union, the sole community sponsor whose annual contribution allows us to distribute cash prizes to the winners of all three competition levels.
